Hi,
Following is the text of my clarification I was preparing when the
question got answered! :)
---------
I can definitely give you many choices. I want to know in advance some
information from you that will narrow down these choices to those that
will suit your needs.
1. How portable should it be. Digital voice recorders are sized from a
small sized desktop model, smaller than a notebook computer, to
pocket-sized ones that may look like a pen. Obviously the small-sized
ones may not give you as much facility and time as the desktop one.
The desktop one will need a small microphone and maybe headphones for
monitoring your recording. Some packages are available.
2. How conversant are you with standard audio recorders (like tape
recorders) and computers? Are you willing to take on a small but
definite learning curve to operate one?
3. If you plan to store your recordings for future use - are you
willing to live with a limited capacity recorder from which you will
have to transfer recordings to another medium like tape or on a
computer to free the space on the recorder. -OR- Do you need to record
on some media that you can buy lots of and just store the media
itself? This way you may never run out of space to record and have to
spend time transferring the stuff you have recorded.
For example, you can buy a recorder that has a particular capacity
after which the stuff on it has to be erased so it can be ready to
record more. In this case you will need to transfer the stuff onto
something like a cassette or a computer so that the space is free on
the recorder for more. If it can record 60 minutes of material, this
capacity is fixed. when you reach 60 min. you will have to stop. you
can continue recording only if previously recorded material is erased.
So, if you want to preserve the earlier recordings they will simply
have to be dumped into some other medium like tape or onto a computer
hard drive or be written into a CD. This is 'limited capacity' but it
can be very compact like a pen in your pocket. With miniaturization
comes some limitations!
On the other hand you can have a recorder that records into media
example - cassette. So you just have to carry enough blank media and
you can record as much as you like, without having to bother about
capacity.
3. What do you mean by excellent quality? To make your answer easy,
select one (or two for a range) from the following:
1. RADIO QUALITY (AM)
2. RADIO QUALITY (FM STEREO)
3. PRE_RECORDED AUDIO CASSETTE QUALITY
4. CD QUALITY - TV NEWS QUALITY
5. DITTO - STUDIO VOICE INTERVIEW QUALITY
6. DITTO - PRE-RECORDED MUSIC ALBUM QUALITY
Please clarify the above and I will find the recorder (or more than
one!) meeting your needs.
warm regards
