Jilldave,
The most logical answer is that the photo is not "embedded" in the
Word document. Some Word documents - especially those you receive via
email, may only display preview versions of the graphic or photo.
Unless the photo was downloaded along with the document, you're
probably out of luck.
The primary thing to remember is that Word is a word processor.
Typically photos are not "embedded" into the document to keep the size
down. However, a user can choose to embed the photo or graphic. You
can set this as a default or you can do it with an individual photo.
If Word knows where the photo is, and it is available on your hard
drive, the photo should print fine. Here are some things you can do:
1. If you received the file via email, ask the person to embed the
photo and resend the document. Alternatively, you can have them send
you the photo and put it into the document yourself.
2. If you created the file yourself, select the document in Word and
click the edit icon. This should pop up an edit window. From there you
can find out where the photo resides on your hard drive. Be sure Word
knows where your photo is on the hard drive.
3. Is your printer capable of printing graphics? Most modern printers
are, including nearly all dot matrix, laser, and ink jet printers.
However, if you've got a very old printer, this may be the problem.
You'll have to go to Kinko's or buy a printer.
I can almost guarantee you that the problem is that you don't have the
actual photo on your computer. Ask the person that sent you the file
to resend. If this is not the problem, let me know and I'l go back to
work! :)
