Hm, you may have already seen this ebay auction which closed last week: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1570069070 I wasn't able to find any other bookseller elsewhere currently selling a copy. Here's part of the Library of Congress entry on it: Personal Name: Garrett, Garet, 1878-1954. Main Title: The driver, by Garet Garrett ... Published/Created: New York, E.P. Dutton & company [c1922] Description: v p., 1 l., 294 p. 19 1/2 cm. Subjects: Railroads--Fiction. It seems that it was serialized in the Saturday Evening Post. So if you really want to own the text, I suppose you could try tracking down those issues. |

Wow. Good find on the ebay auction. Bummer that I did not start watching ebay until two days after that. But, I have now dropped a note to both the Seller - to see if he may have leads on any other copies - and he has already responded no - and the Buyer - to see if he might be willing to part with his new purchase - still waiting to hear back from him... if that works, I would consider that to be very much a successful answer to the question - but as that would appear to be still very much a long shot, please feel free to keep on looking everyone! |

Also, good tidbit regarding the Saturday Evening Post! If someone can find the complete serialized set of magazines available for purchase by me, that would also be a more than acceptable answer to this question. But as that too would still seem to be very much of a long shot, please feel free to keep looking everyone... Thanks! |

Googled, have you tried signing up for any of the "notification lists" offered by the major used book dealers? (Tell them what book you want, and they notify you when a copy comes in.) Amazon.com would be one place to do this, but possibly the best used book source online is here: http://www.alibris.com/bookfetch/home.cfm?S=R&wauthor=Garet%20Garrett Good luck! |

Dear googled, Here are some more used book sites - personally, I prefer most of them over Alibris: 1. http://www.abebooks.com (many booksellers, many books) 2. http://www.tomfolio.com (a co-op of independent booksellers) 3. http://www.bookfinder.com (Searches many sites) 4. http://used.addall.com/ (Also searches many sites) 5. Amazon zShops http://s1.amazon.com/exec/varzea/subst/search/fixed-search.html/ref=z_h_tn_as/103-5186336-6944652 6. http://www.bibliophile.net (has an international flavour) 7. http://www.bookavenue.com Good luck, hummer |

Thanks for suggesting the "saved search" sites - there were a couple that I had previously missed. However, it was frustration with having to wait on one of those "want lists" that led me to post the question in the first place in the hopes that a copy might materialize from an unexpected or previously unknown source or direction. Meanwhile, I did hear back from the winner of that previously mentioned auction - the one that I had missed by just two days. Oddly enough, it turns out that he was the editor of a book on Garrett that I had recently read - and which had started me off once again on the search for this book in the first place! Small world, eh? |
