I am trying to find a web page I made In Memory of My Daughter Bethany
Rachelle Hoffner. The address was
http://home.talkcity.com/spiritst/ilovebeth.beth.html It always says
that page is unavailable. I thought maybe the page address has changed
since it was once before, from msn homepages. Maybe, they weren't able
to contact me because my email adress had changed. Please help me if
you can. Thank you Joan Hoffner

Hi Joan,

I'm so sorry for your loss. It must be doubly frustrating for you,
not being able to find her page.

I used to maintain space at TalkCity, and it looks to me that there is
something...not quite right...with the URL you've provided. Was the
neighborhood "Spirit Circle"? What was your User Name there? Was it
"ilovebeth", or was "ilovebeth" a directory name?

You mention that the page had changed from MSN homepages. Do you
remember the page address from when it was part of MSN?

Any or all of these clues can assist in finding the page.

Hi again, Joan,

Using the clues you mentioned in your query, I took a shot at looking
up "msnhomepages.talkcity.com" through the Internet Archive
[ http://www.archive.org ], and came up with the following listing:

Wayback Machine Query: msnhomepages.talkcity.com
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://msnhomepages.talkcity.com

The latest archived listing which jumps to the old MSN Homepages page
is May 27th, 2001 - all after that point to the updated TalkCity page.
I followed the May 27th link through to Homepage Listings, and found
"IloveBeth" in the Spirit St.:

Wayback Machine: MSN Homepages - SpiritSt Directory
http://web.archive.org/web/20011122072700/msnhomepages.talkcity.com/SpiritSt/listing19.html

The record ends there, unfortunately. Following the "IloveBeth" link
leads to a Not In Archive page:

http://web.archive.org/web/20021025093014/http://msnhomepages.talkcity.com/SpiritSt/ilovebeth/

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but it appears the page you
made for your daughter vanished into the ether with TalkCity.

If you have alternate URLs, we may still be able to find the page -
for instance, if you kept a backup page at another host or if you had
an additional directory name (/SpiritCir/spiritstr/ ?). If you have
any other clues, I will continue searching for you, just in case a
copy of the page still exists somewhere.

It looks like the page may be gone forever. Thank you for all your
help. Joan Hoffner

Joan,

If it helps, a Google Image search using "ilovebeth" turns up about 23
cached thumbnail images of your lovely daughter from the site.

I found the old homepages.msn address. I've contacted MSN to see if
they have caches, backups, etc that might recover some of the site.

Hi there,
It seems Talk City has shut down after claiming bankruptcy, which
would explain your missing page. You can read a news brief at
<http://news.com.com/2110-1017-949044.html>.
Sorry not to bring you better news!

I, too, found nothing concrete and I commend Missy for her thorough
searching.

I did locate your daughter's obituary and noted that MADD was
mentioned for donations. On some rare bit of luck, might they have
copied your tribute page for their records? The contact info given
was Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), 719 Sawdust Road, The
Woodlands, TX 77380 and the Kid-Care Food Program, 4504 Old Yale,
Houston, TX 77018

I wish you luck in recovering the information and my prayers are with
you.

Another possibility, although it's a long shot, is that if you or
someone else sent the page by e-mail, a copy could still be on the
computer of either the sender or the recipient (depending on the mail
software and configuration). An even longer shot is that it could be
in the cache of someone who viewed the page.

This is all I could find:

http://www.angelfire.com/hi2/motherswithangels/memorial5.html

Notice the link goes to:

http://homepages.msn.com/spiritst/ilovebeth/beth.html

which takes you to a passport login page for msn groups and once
you've logged in, it's an empty page. The wayback machine doesnt have
that page archived either, it just fowards to the current page.
