It really depends on who you contract to resell for re: do you need to
file for a DBA (doing business as) name or posses a seller's permit
etc...

Many companies do not require these things but it is in your best
interest to obtain them. The reason for this is that if you have them
you are then exempt from paying the sales tax on the merchandise you
purchase and then resell. This will cut down on your initial
expenditures.

I cannot answer specifically how you should go about doing this as the
laws vary from state to state as does the process of obtaining the
permit.

In California, where I live, here are the requirements for application
can be found here:

http://www.taxes.ca.gov/doingbus2.html#Applying

For an example of the kind of contract you may be required to sign to
be a reseller for a distribution company go here:

http://www.newegg.com/app/ResellerCertificate.htm

Finally, for a company that is accepting applications for resellers of
PS2 games go here:

http://www.ps2gold.com/reseller.html

They do not give the specifics of their program on the site but if you
email them at the address provided they will no doubt give you a much
better idea of what kind of requirments you are looking at.

I hope that was helpful.

Sure. In New York state they call it registering as a "sales tax
vendor". You can find the forms, instructions for filling them out,
and even a key to what your number classification should be on the
forms here:

http://www.tax.state.ny.us/pubs_and_bulls/html/miscellaneous_pages/new_vendor_registration_forms.htm

If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask. I'm in the slow
season right now and don't have much else better to do.

You may alse need to go through a distributor. Very few resellers are
large enough to buy direct from the manufacturer. I don't know for
sure, which ones, but in the US, you could probably start with Ingram
Micro, D & H, or Tech Data. Or ask EA which distrbutors they use.
Stuff like games you don't usually need any special authorization to
be a reseller. You just buy from an authorized distributor, mark-up
and resell. Be careful though, as some vendors may have different
requirements. Also the distributors usually have a sign up charge and
certain minimums on their accounts.
