I'm looking for a Win2K/XP movie player that will 1) Play local AVI/Quicktime files 2) Allow me to drag the time slider and see the current frame while dragging the slider 3) Show the current frame number 4) Freeware The old version of "windows media player" could handle part(2), but not (3). The current version of media player does not update the image until you let go of the slider. Surely there is some third party who has released a tool that can handle this task ? |

Zoom Player is a nice freeware player with tons of features and is available at [ http://www.inmatrix.com/files/zoomplayer_download.shtml ] To access the current frames, simply load the player, open up the desired video. Right-click on the video image and select "Video Information" This will bring up a windows listing a variety of statistics about the video, including frames per second. Just leave this window open while dragging the slider on the main player window, and it will update both the frames per second in the window and time on the slider I did not post this an an answer because this player is unable to play .mov quicktime files, but it does support all others I hope this helps until a player that plays both avi and quicktime can be found -molszewski-ga |

Good luck finding a freeware program that reads both quicktime and avi. The only programs I've seen that will play both are professional video editing programs, since you'd have to license quicktime, and therefore charge for the product. That said, here is something that is not exactly what you asked for, but will do most of it. http://www.virtualdub.org This is a video editing program that will play back an AVI, as well as allow you to pull on a slider and see the current frame. It will show you the current frame number, and it is freeware. So, it will do everything but play quicktime movies, which I doubt exists (somebody please prove me wrong, I want it too.) It is an awesome program by any measure. |
