I’ve been a MSN subscriber for many years, but would like to
unsubscribe now. For several months I have been unable to access my
email and my account, even though I receive and pay the monthly
charges on my credit card. (I use them as a backup in case my primary
ISP fails). It could well be my fault because I may not remember the
password I used there. The question is, how can I cancel the service
without having access to the account? I know that the brute force
method is to contact the credit card company, but is there a way to
approach MSN because I would like to continue the service with them.

Hi again,

The Phone Way
================

To cancel the service online you need to log in, and to log in you
need your password. Seeing as you appear to have forgotten your
password, you need to reset it.

After searching through the MSN support site labyrinth* I got to this
page, where you can begin the process of resetting your password:
http://support.msn.com/property_index.aspx?cp=true&pk=passport&pp=both\passport

1. In the left column click on "Forgot Password"
2. On the next screen enter your User ID
3. Enter your credit card details
4. ? (I'm not a MSN subscriber, so this is as far as I could go)

* It was an eye opener. Many of the support links at MSN lead to pages
that aren't there, or sometimes you get trapped in a loop of pages. I
wonder how many folk who wish to cancel their service have been unable
to?

I had to find this number by searching Google Groups. It does not
appear to be listed on any Microsoft sites.

Microsoft Network (MSN) Customer Support: 1-800-386-5550

(It was probably included in your MSN documentation somewhere)

I trust this answers your question. If any portion of my answer is
unclear, please ask for clarification.

Hi,

I used to have MSN too. What you need to do is get your password how
robertskelton-ga said and then you call them up and say you wan to
cancel your service with them. Make sure you do it at the begining of
the month because they charge you a month ahead. They will ask for
your user name and password the you give your credit card number to
verify and then they give you a cancellation number. Thats it they
will try to keep subscribed but if you dont want it dont let them
convince you. They will call you a couple weeks later and ask if you
will do a survey for them. Have fun talking with them.
