A 20-yr old homosexual male who is active in gay rights and political
issues has come in for therapy. He is guarded and suspicious and
after three sessions still has not shared any deep feelings. He
states that it is getting harder for him to escape the prejuudice and
stigmatization of being gay. It appears that his homosexuality is not
an intrapsychic conflict.

Carmen,
Can you specify the discipline of the therapist? Is it a psychiatrist,
a psychologist, a psych nurse, a social worker?
Thanks,
fsw

Hi again Carmen,
I assume by MFT you mean Marriage & Family Therapy, right? And I
assume that you are looking for a full, multi-axial dx from the
DSM-IV-TR, is that right?
I have the dx for you. And I have a tx plan for you. But I'm not
certain that the tx plan is as systems-oriented as someone with an MFT
perspective would desire.

Hi fsw, yes, MFT is Marriage and Family Therapy. Okay, give me
whatever dx and tx plan from your perspective. Thanks! Have to ask
you to give me two perspectives of your answer: 1) as an unseasoned
student in the practicum/field-study phase of a graduate program and
2) as a seasoned *professional such as yourself.
*Your first response was thorough; I appreciate that. And Thanks
again!
