I am trying to fix the display (in Windows) on my boss's computer ...somehow it switched from normal mode to a "Virtual Display" mode. It offers the opportunity to have a display that is larger than the screen and you pan around. I figured out how to put it in Pan Lock within Virtual Display mode -- but it is then so small that he can't see to work on it. What I really need to do is figure out how to take it OUT of virtual display mode. Can you help?

The Display Area values are what need to change. So that your boss gets the full desktop in his/her screen view, the values for Display Area: Screen and Display Area: Desktop must be equal. Start with setting both to 640x480 and work upwards to what is a comfortable view for the Compaq monitor. Probably 800x600. If setting both equal do not work, try setting the Display Area: Desktop to something less than the Display Area: Screen.

Fixed my problem! It was being quite ornery but the suggestion to start at the lowest resolution and work up is what finally made it work! |

Generally computers that offer the Virtual desktop, have two slider bars in the Settings tab of the display properties. One of the tabs is for the virtual size, the other tab is for the displayed (actual desktop size.) If you have both sliders at the same resolution, the virtual display should stop being displayed. |

Andrea, I looked up the specs for the V500 monitor and it's a 15" monitor (fairly small), with a maximum resolution of 1280x1024. I would recommend a resolution of 800x600, any higher and it will be quite difficult to read, but 1024x768 is possible. If it's flickering very bad and giving your Boss headaches you could try increasing the refresh rate. You can find this under Display properties > Advanced > Adapter > Refresh Rate. It looks like the highest setting is around 75Hz and a maybe on 85Hz. If you change a setting and click ok and the screen disappears, wait 15 seconds and it will go back to the previous setting. These instructions were for Windows 95/98. Regards, Gambo |
