Hello rahpraj,
And thanks for your question.
You will find others have had this exact problem. For example:

Need sound drivers for Win2000 for HP Pavilion 6470z PLEASE HELP
Installed Win2000 on PC, sound died. HP CS has been unhelpful as to
whereabouts of the drivers I need. Please help.
Answer:
Try this:
http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/cposupport/swindex.pl?p=hppavilion9404&l=en&c=DriverSound
If not: identify the onboard audio chipset, if its an intel chipset,
check out www.intel.com for drivers.
And, another user comments:
When I changed to Windows 2000 on my Pavilion 7905 I also had no
audio. I identified the Intel chipset and downloaded the drivers from
their website. By installing the drivers it still gave me a yellow
exclamation mark next to the audio device in Device Manager but gave
me audio output for any Windows sounds and audio CDs. However, MP3
format played back at 2 -3 times normal speed. By checking for updated
drivers through Device Manager and selecting "Microsoft Windows
Update" as a place to search while connected to the Internet, a
message came back that a more current driver has been found.
Installing this driver solved the audio problem and I have full sound
in Windows 2000.
So, I would try the above HP link, and then if need be, identify the
chipset on your audio and check Intel.
At Google Groups, I found the following:
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=HP+Pavilion+6470z+windows+2000+drivers&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&selm=eVNF%23mBy%24GA.197%40cppssbbsa05&rnum=1
"...Once up and running I found that it did not load drivers for my
RipTide sound/modem chipset. I had downloaded the updated Win2000
drivers from the HP web site, although they do not support this
configuration. I used the hardware wizard to install the drivers for
this device. I had to do it several times, picking a different device
each time. Some of the devices in the list didn't have a name, but I
just kept pointing it to the directory were the RipTide drivers were
and it kept installing. There are several pieces to the RipTide chip
set, such as sound, game port, modem, etc. It all worked very well,
and I have working sound and modem. "
And one user in this thread notes:
"HP does not officially support Win2000 on my HP Pavilion 6470Z. Has
anyone had experience using Win2000 on a series 64xx HP Pavilion? "
So you may have a problem finding driver s that will function for all
of your devices.
The entire thread can be found here:

Another discussion site,
http://computing.net/windows2000/wwwboard/forum/13925.html , notes the
following in this thread on power management in Windows 2000 on an HP
6460:
"That means you're on your own. Since they don't support Windows 2000
on the system that means you'll probably have strange things happen at
times (like your stanby). Not much you can do about some of them since
the BIOS and OS itself control most things and if the BIOS doesn't
support the OS... My advice would be to disable the power options,
they'll cause you trouble and there's no way to fix them if HP doesn't
support it..."
So, I am becoming confident that this operating system is not
supported by HP on the OS.

"I have a new H/P Pavilion that came with Win98 installed - I
installed Win2k and now the multimedia audio controller doesn't work -
it searches for Drivers when I try to install it, and it doesn't find
any on the C: drive or on the H/P CD that conatins the system
drivers... help!! Any replies appreciated!"
"click on the link below...then enter in your specific Pavilion Number
to find the updated drivers.

Following this link through for 6470 to
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwareList.jhtml?reg=&cc=&prodId=hppavilion9404&lc=en&softitem=Driver&sw_lang=en
shows a little potential and lists the following:
Pavilion ATI video update 1998-12-14 5.23-C53C 2.03 MB
Multimedia Keyboard Driver for PS/2 Cockpit Keyboard 2000-09-27
3.2.132 3.73 MB
Pavilion Riptide Audio/Modem Update for North American Countries
2000-06-08 4.17 3.06 MB
Bass/Treble Controls Not Working or Frequent Out of Memory Errors
2000-08-01 N/A 352.00 KB
These may very well be worth trying.

"I upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 Professional edition on my
HP Pavilion 8590, and subsequently discovered that HP does not support
this upgrade. The sound no longer works, Any ideas?"
Answer:
"Go to your sound card manufacturer's website and download a win2k
driver."
So, you may have to do some sleuthing on your particular devices.
And last, I would try www.windrivers.com, though it is a subscription
service. It may have the drivers you require.
I wish I had better news for you. Though it looks like HP does not
support Windows 2000 on this computer, the above links may actually
help to get you functional without having to downgrade your OS.
If anything above is unclear, please do ask for clarification. And
good luck obtaining the drivers you need.
