kellyclose,

How well a book is going to address your organizational needs will
depend on the type of "organization" for which you are looking. Here
is a list of books which have received rave reviews for their advice
on personal (lifestyle) organization:

"Conquering Chronic Disorganization" by Judith Kolberg
According to Marion Hudson, OfficeSystems99 (August, 1999):
"If the idea of tackling paper piles are too daunting, check out
Kolberg's Conquering Chronic Disorganization. It describes how
conventional organizing may not be possible for some people, and
teaches us the alternatives."

While this book is aimed at people with Attention Deficit Disorder, it
has received good comments from non-ADD people about its helpfulness
in general:
"ADD-Friendly Ways to Organize Your Life" by Judith Kolberg, Kathleen
Nadeau
"Consumer text focuses on the particular dilemas and challenges of
adults with ADD. Provides organizational skills for life, allowing
energy to be focused on strengths, rather than disorder, through the
use of humor and compassion."

"Get Your Act Together!: A 7-Day Get-Organized Program for the
Overworked, Overbooked, and Overwhelmed" by Pam Young, Peggy Jones
(Contributor)
"The SLOB Sisters are back after the phenomenal success of Sidetracked
Home Executives (750,000 paperback copies sold), with a new program
for organizing your home and personal life."

"Sidetracked Home Executives: From Pigpen to Paradise" by Pam Young,
Peggy Jones, Sydney Craft Rozen (Editor)
"To put it simply, this book will change your life! I first
implemented this system 8 years ago after the birth of our 1st child
(we now have three)...I have more free time now, I am actually on time
for my appointments, and my house is finally clean. Just read it and
you will be hooked too!" (Amazon review by jennylovescountry from
Hampton Roads, VA)

"The New Messies Manual: The Procrastinator's Guide to Good
Housekeeping" by Sandra Felton
"If you're tired of fighting an avalanche every time you open a closet
or cabinet door... if you never answer the phone because you can't
find it... if there's a "Cleanie" inside you whos striving to break
free, The New Messies Manual can help you make chronic messiness a
thing of the past!"

"Checklists for Life: 104 Lists to Help You Get Organized, Save Time,
and Unclutter Your Life", by Kirsten M. Lagatree
"At some point in our lives, we all wish life had come with an
instruction manual; a little something to help us navigate the
labyrinth of this complex world with a touch of grace and dignity. Is
it so much to ask? Luckily for us, Kirsten M. Lagatree has risen to
the challenge. Checklists for Life offers 104 lists that can help you
with all those nagging little uncertainties, from organizing your
closet to choosing a lawyer." (Amazon book review)

"Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity" by David
Allen
"As whole-life-organizing systems go, Allen's is pretty good, even fun
and therapeutic. It starts with the exhortation to take every
unaccounted-for scrap of paper in your workstation that you can't
junk, The next step is to write down every unaccounted-for gotta-do
cramming your head onto its own scrap of paper. Finally, throw the
whole stew into a giant "in-basket"...
the spine of his system is captured on a straightforward, one-page
flowchart that you can pin over your desk and repeatedly consult
without having to refer back to the book. That alone is worth the
purchase price. Also of value is Allen's ingenious Two-Minute Rule: if
there's anything you absolutely must do that you can do right now in
two minutes or less, then do it now, thus freeing up your time and
mind tenfold over the long term."

"Sink Reflections" by Marla Cilley
"In her debut book, Cilley, a.k.a. "The FlyLady" to the thousands who
log onto her FlyLady.net Web site, reaches into the everywoman's home
to help make her housecleaning more fun and her life more organized...
including the 27 Fling Boogie (the cut-throat practice of quick junk
disposal), the Five-Minute Room Rescue ("another step on the road to
clutter recovery") and the Hot Spot Fire Drill (for an area that, like
a forest fire, takes over your home), Cilley advises her "FlyBabies"
on how to overcome clutter and CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over
Syndrome)."

This was a great answer - the remarks from 'professional' reviewers
were especially helpful and this was super fast. The "reader" reviews
were somewhat less useful (it's only one random person, after all) but
overall a good answer and well worth the $$$....
