Question ID: 90631
I'm trying to find out whether Herff Jones has or plans to purchase
new color printers for its yearbook printing business? I have
received some information that the company's Utah faciity will be
adding new color printers in the Fall of '03.

1. Are the printers Komori, Indigo, or some other type of printers
that allows for an all color yearbook to be printed easily (e.g. color
pages can be printed in one pass vs. seperate passes for each color)?

2. How many of these printers does Herff Jones plan to add and in
what locations (I believe the company's Utah facility will be adding
the printers but don't know for sure.

3. Why is Herff Jones adding these printers (e.g. change in strategy,
replacement, etc.)

4. Will Herff Jones change its pricing strategy as a result of these
new printers?

I have contacted Herff Jones and am awaiting a response. If they
refuse to answer some part of your question, will you accept 3 out of
4 as an answer?

Are you asking about "printers" or "printing presses" such as sheet
fed, web presses, gravure, etc.

Yes, I will accept 3 of 4 answers. The primary questions I need
answered are questions 1 thru 3. However, I would like an answer to
question 4 if at all possible.

The most critical question is does Herff Jones have "new" (not their
existing Miller presses) color printing presses. If so, what kind,
how many, where are they located,a nd why did they add them.

In response to the other question from digsalot....I am talking about
printing "presses"....basically the machines that Herff Jones would
use to produce an all color yearbook. Komori-like (could be some
other type of printer) presses make the printing process more
efficient.

I got an answer that could only have been written by a marketroid,
even if it is signed by the "plant manager". Worthless though it is,
I'll post it here - if nothing else, it's got a phone number you could
try calling...

I received a correspondence this morning with regard to your inquiry
about
the Logan Plant's plans to add additional printing capacity. Our plans
are,
of course, proprietary due to competitive issues involved, but I am
willing
to make the following statement:

We have sufficient printing capacity to handle all the demands being
placed
on us from our customers. There is much technology in the market (old,
new,
immerging) that we are constantly evaluating to determine best fit for
our
business and to meet the expectations of our growing customer base.
Our
systems and workflow are constantly evolving and adapting to serve
these
customer needs. We are therefore prepared to purchase the equipment
and
apply the resources necessary to maintain and improve our competitive
position in the marketplace.

Thanks for you inquiry,

-Larry.
