I am looking for a mortgage company named Gulf States Mortgage Co.,
Inc. that was an active mortgage company in Atlanta, Georgia in
December of 1992.  I cannot find any information on the company and
the telephone numbers that I have do not work.  Can you provide me
with any information on how I may contact them?  I am trying to
refinance and I need a Certificate of Settlement from them on a
previous loan.  Please let me know as soon as possible if there is any
information on this company.

I managed to locate the company you are searching. As a result of my
research, I found this information on the website of the Citizens
Bank:

"This influx of capital enabled Citizens Financial Group to purchase
its first subsidiary, Gulf States Mortgage Company, the following
year. Gulf States, based in Atlanta, changed its name to Citizens
Mortgage Corporation and grew into an $8.3 billion mortgage banking
and servicing company."

And, in the News section:

"Providence, RI (March 18, 2002)- James F. Jandrisevits has been named
President and Chief Operating Officer of Citizens Mortgage Corporation
(CMC) announced Mark J. Formica, Vice Chairman of Citizens Retail
Delivery and Services Group. (...) Citizens Mortgage Corporation
offers residential mortgage lending in seven states in New England and
the Mid-Atlantic."

Since the new Citizens Mortgage CEO was elected in Providene, Rhode
Island, the company head office is now surely located there. So I
performed a search using the online address directory Switchboard.com
and received the following result:

So if you neet to get any certificates connected to loans provided by
former Gulf States Mortgage, you should contact Citizens Mortgage. As
it seems, they do not maintain an office or a branch in Atlanta,
Georgia, anymore; but this does, of course, not change their
competence for loans by Gulf States. Contacting the head office will
without any doubt suit your needs.
