I am looking for a source which gives a good phonological or phonetic
description of the West Flemish dialect of the Dutch language. I need
info on where to find a book, article, or online site that explains
the language in terms of phonetics (actual sounds used in pronouncing
the language) and phonological rules (how the sounds of the language
change when used in various combinations). These sources might be
called grammars, phonologies, descriptions, linguistic descriptions,
etc., of West Flemish. It has to be something that describes West
Flemish as distinct from Standard Dutch.

<In West Flanders there are several dialects that are spoken in
geographical areas. For example Brugge, Poperinge, Roeselare and
Oostende all have their own dialects. The major differences in the
dialects is the words used. For example the Dutch word for bucket is
‘emmer’ but in the Ostends dialect the word ‘seule’ is used. The
various dialects are declining due to the standardised Dutch language
being taught in schools and the influence of media like television.

A database of over 200,000 Dutch words and how they are pronounced in
Flanders is available online. The database is called Fonilex (a link
is given below). To get access to the database you need to sign a
licensing agreement.

There is also currently an ongoing project to compile a dictionary of
words found in West Flanders.

There are two books about the Flemish dialects. Links to Amazon.com
have been included below where detailed bibliographical information
can be found. >

The most promising lead I have been able to find is the following
link, which points to a site that provides links to other sites
relating to Zeelandic languages or dialects, including West Flemish.
The most promising of those links may be the one described as:

"Aksjuh Commiethee tur Bevordring van 't West Vlams (Action Committee
for the Promotion of West-Flemish; loads of information and texts in
West Flemish - including a spelling system for the language."

Unfortunately, the site that this link points to is in either Dutch
or, more likely, West-Flemish,and I have no way to evaluate the
information.

If you can read the information at the sites I have located and
consider thie comment as to be fully responsive to your question, I
will recast it in the form of an answer. If not, other researchers
may be able to take it from here.

Good luck!
