Dear srigoogle,

I suspect you are already choosing a healthy diet, but here is a quick
run down of a diet designed to lower cholesterol for a person who does
not eat meat. Probably more important for you, is getting in the habit
of exercising every day. I've included a link to a handy calculator
which will help you determine what type of exercising you need to do
to lower your cholesterol.

CHOOSE:
1. Skim Milk and Cheese
2. Substitute olive oil for margarine or butter.
3. Oats, rice bran, oatmeal, barley, beans, peas and fruit
4. Soybeans, soy milk or powder, tempeh, miso, tofu and texturized
vegetable protein (TVP)
5. Ground flaxseed http://www.healthwell.com/hnbreakthroughs/jan99/news1.cfm?path=hw&cond=13&mcat=58

NUTS:
1. Nuts help crack high cholesterol levels:

2. Walnuts may have cholesterol busting qualities:

3. Nuts For Heart Health:

AVOID:
1. "hydrogenated vegetable oil"
2. Whole Milk dairy products
3. Limit caffeine intake
4. Limit eggs
4. Saturated fat and oil (coconut, palm oil, chocolate)
5. Smoking
6. Being overweight

EXERCISE:
You can improve cholesterol and triglyceride levels by a daily regime
of moderate exercise. There are many handy "Target Heart Rate
Calculators" online, here is one (bottom of page):
http://www.iitk.ac.in/hc/HealthCalci/healthcalci.htm
Staying within your heart beat range for 30 - 45 minutes per day,
should not only improve your cholesterol levels, but it would also be
good for your blood pressure.

The answer is short and sweet: cut out sugars. If it is sweet, don't
eat it. I dont' have time to give you the explanation, but if you go
to a library and look up carbohydrate metabolism or diabetes or
something like that, you will find it. You need to look for metabolic
pathways - that's how sugars are stored. Good luck.
