1) What are the strengths and weaknesses of Sun Microsystems? Strenghts - Engineering, SPARC chipset, Architecture, Java Weaknesses - SPARC Chipset, large corporate OH, inefficient supply chain, tough making money off Java 2) Describe Sun's corporate climate. Is it a strength of weakness? Very academic, consensus based it's a weakness 3) Who are the prime competitors in the industry that Sun is part of? IBM, HP, Dell, Microsoft 4) What is the impact the Internet has on Sun's strategic planning? Explosive growth, 96-2000, did not see the slow down, dot.com's were major customers, Enron was $100M plus a year as well. No headging 5) Does Sun have any "core competencies"? If yes, what are they? Engineering the fastest most powerful servers with excellent scalability characteristics Extra question: Does Sun have a distinctive competency? If yes, what is it? |
