Trying to track down a movie I saw on television 24 years ago. It was
sponsored by "Lloyds Furs" here in Denver and shown over several
nights. The story took place in Australia and I remember it was about
English prisoners being send there (it was originally a penal colony)
and how they established their lives...married, had children. I don't
remember the specific story line, but it was about the lives of the
"New Australians". I want to learn the title, and locate it at the
video store if possible.

I checked out the links you provided. They seem to be very close, but
I don't think we've found the exact movie yet. I'd appreciate any
further ideas. It may have been a "movie for tv" if that's any clue.
Thank you.

Pink, I think The Emigrants might be the one. The fact that it's a TV
miniseries and about the right year makes it one heck of a good guess.
Now, if it is the one, is there a way I can watch it again? Is it
available to rent?

The movies ideas by all the efforts were excellent.
Thank you.

bella_aria,

I'm afraid that after searching for nearly two hours I've come up
empty on finding a video of the TV miniseries "The Emigrants." There
is a Max Von Sydow movie by the same name that is about Swedish
immigrants to America; every video source I've checked that lists "The
Emigrants" refers to the movie, not the unrelated miniseries, which
apparently has not been released commercially on videotape.

Since there were very few home videotaping setups in the '70s, it is
unlikely that even the tape-swap collectors would have this. I checked
a few tape-swap sites and file-sharing networks, and did not find it.

I wish I had more to offer, but I seem to have reached an impasse.

I think The Emigrants is the right answer - the mini-series version
about immigrants from England to Australia. It seems very unfortunate
to me that such a terrific movie would be "lost". Surely it's
somewhere. The fact that it showed on TV here in Denver (again
sponsored by Lloyd's Furs - the advertising must have worked because I
remember after 24 years - they must have reminded the viewer a 100
times) means that it exists. Please keep pursuing. I will gladly
post an additional paid fee if necessary.

If this is the movie I'm trying to track down, would ABC-BBC know if
it is in their archives and whether it is obtainable?

Contacting the ABC may indeed be a good idea. Here's a form that
enables you to send a message online:

It could be "For the term of his Natural life" which is a book
written by noted Australian author Marcus Clarke.
I found a copy of the movie for purchase at -

It might be a movie series based off of the novel, "A Rogue's Life" by
Wilkie Collins. From your discription it lines up with the book.
