I have just learned of the existence of a 27 episode cult television
series starring Jeff Fahey and Jan Michael Vincent called "Surfer
Republican". It supposedly ran on the USA network between the years
1992 - 1994. It has been described as a blistering satire, the likes
of which has not been seen on TV before or since. My question is -
has anybody heard of the existence of these tapes or know anything
about this show/series. Having followed Jeff Fahey's career very
closely since the 80s, I have never heard of this series. No other
Fahey fans spoke with have heard of it either. It does not show up in
the resume of either Jeff Fahey or Jan Michael Vincent. Has anybody
ever seen this show? If you have, was it good? Why was it kept such
a secret? Anything you could tell me about it would be very
appreciated.

I am very skeptical of this. I'm a HUGE Jeff Fahey fan. Like you, I've
been watching his career with interest since the 80s. I first saw him
in a TV movie called "The Execution of Raymond Graham," and I've been
eager to see anything in which he has appeared ever since.

I cannot believe that a network as large as USA could have had an
entire series featuring Jeff Fahey, and I missed it. Surely there
would be some evidence (and, as far as I can tell from my research,
there is none.)

Could somebody be pulling your leg?

I don't know anymore. It was listed on ebay as a legitimate auction.
The funny thing is, however, that just two hours before the end of the
auction, the seller pulled the product, and said it was no longer
available. At this point I don't know what to think.

As a fan of Jeff's, off the topic of these tapes, Jeff's fan club has
just launched a birthday site for him in honor of his upcoming
November birthday. Why don't you go and take a look at it? If you
like it, we hope you will contribute to it.

Mainly because the title of this series you mentioned tickled me so
much, I did a couple of searches on this. It's not listed in Fahey's
bio in any of the standard reference works, nor can I find anything
listed in the newspaper databases. How certain are you that this is
the correct title?

Well, it's not in the imdb (www.imdb.com) by title, nor is it listed
in either actor's filmography and credits.
A search of google.ca for "surfer republican" has absolutely zero
results.

I think it was a hoax, which explains it being pulled. Probably some
fan like you complained to eBay that it was a scam, and they had it
pulled.

For those who are curious, you can viewed the closed auction at:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1572881872

The seller has zero feedback and isn't responding to emails sent his/her way.

I think it was defineatly killed by eBay or the seller. ZThe start and
end times are different. Usually, the auction ends the specified
number of days after it starts. To the minute. Unless it's pulled,
cancelled, or ended with buy it now.
