I have heard that about 5 years ago actor Jeff Fahey had a lot of
trouble with a stalker, so much so that he had to hire a bodyguard for
a period of time.  Does anybody have any details about this?

I searched quite a while and couldn't find anything like you're
describing. I searched the following terms: "Jeff Fahey" stalker,
"Jeff Fahey" bodyguard.
