What is the model of the modem and for what operating system?

I have the CD that contains the drivers for the modem. I ran the
Setup program from the CD and it seemed to run OK. I was then asked
to restart the system, and that is when it found new hardware and is
looking for "IntelC11.cat". The modem is an AMBIENT modem with an
Intel sticker covering the Ambient chip because Intel bought Ambient a
year or so ago.

The modem is a 537 and I am working with Win98SE.

Sounds like it's just wanting the location of the driver files again
so that it can complete the installation. I would try browsing to the
CD where the drivers are stored or they may have been extracted to a
temporary place on your hard drive. You could try doing a file search
on both your HD and the CD for this file so you know where to point
the dialog box to the next time it asks. This is fairly common when
installing devices such as modems and sound cards - especially OEM
devices.

I have done a search on both the HD and the CD, but file is not to be found.

Take a look at this page:
http://www.amigo.com.tw/download.htm

Scroll down to the AMI-IA92 PCI modem.

Does this look like your modem? If so, download the file labeled for
Windows 98SE. It's a ZIP file. Extract it to your hard drive. This zip
file contains a file called INTELC11.CAT which should be the file you
need - actually the complete driver set.

If this works, let me know and I'll turn it into an official answer.

Here's the link to the Win98SE zip file:

That helped me to successfully set up the modem, but I still have the
problem of disconnecting after 30 sec. I thought that since we were
missing this file it was causing the disconnects.

Sounds like a problem with the modem or with the configuration in
itself. It's probaby outside the scope of this $2.00 question as it
would involve some troubleshooting steps and further research in order
to resolve. Can I go ahead and post the above information on the
missing file as the official answer to this question so that it can be
closed out?

If you continue to have problems with the modem, you might consider
opening another question so a researcher can perform troubleshooting
steps with you or possibly replacing the modem.

No problem with your plan. The file is where you told me it would be
and that was my original question. I gave up on the Intel modem and
installed another brand.

russf,

To answer your question, the file you are referring to is contained
within the driver set for the AMI-IA92 PCI modem.

The direct link to the file you need is located within this zipped
file (for Win98SE):
http://www.amigo.com.tw/Dl/IA92w98se161486.zip

If you need drivers for the other versions of Windows, please see this
page:
http://www.amigo.com.tw/download.htm

Good luck with your modem!

Sincerely,
PWizard
