Top ten zipcodes in Orange County California with the highest
population of males between the ages of 12-18 and top ten zipcodes
with males between the ages of 19-23 with household incomes greater
than $40,000.00.
Answer must include top ten zip codes (20 total, 10 for each
category), with the quantity of males meeting the criteria broken down
by age. Zip Code is the smallest area constraint I could think of -
if the researcher can break it down to a smaller area, i.e. Zip+4, I
will tip accordingly. Please provide supporting documentation for
accuracy varification.
Example:
Area Code 92648 has 2500 males between the ages of 12-18 with
household incomes greater than $40,000.
Aditionally: 60% of the 2500 are between the ages of 16-18 and reside
in 92648-4568. |

Hi joelp,
Being a person in your demographic group, I was very interested in
this question. I have located data regarding the population of males
of age by year in each of the area code in OC (I have even more
detailed data, down to the census tract and block levels).
Unfortunately, income data for households in this area do not indicate
whether the they contain males between the ages of 19-23, thus there
is no way to tell how many males in that age range have household
incomes greater than $40,000. I suspect that no such data is
available.

Correction: when I said "area code," I meant to say "ZIP code." Sorry
for the confusion.

It is important that I have household income for each of my two
categories 12-18 and 19-23. Here's why; if the city of Santa Ana
contains 5 zip codes and they all have the highest population of males
in the age groups I requested (5 zips@12-18 and 5 zips @19-23) and
their household incomes are less than $40,000.00, then half of the
result set I am seeking is invalid, leaving me with only 5 zip codes
in each age group of males I'm looking for. In addition, I do not
know to exclude the Santa Ana zip codes from my result set because I
do not have the household income information.
On another note; I should have also qualified that the data should not
be more than 4 years old. That means that if the data is coming from
the year 2000 census, it would be fine, but if its coming from year
1990 census its already too old.
Here's what I would suggest:
If you do not have household income data I will accept your answer -
if you provide data that is not more than 4 years old and you provide
the data for all of Orange county zip codes. Then the only piece of
data I'm missing is the household income, and because you provided
data for all zip codes not just the top ten for each group, I can
later remove those with household incomes that do not meet my
specifications.
Hows that?

Hello joelp,
Please confirm this so that I know exactly what constitutes an
acceptable answer before answering your question:
1. Data must be less than 4 years old.
2. Give the number of males between the ages of 12 and 18 in all zip
codes in Orange County. (I can break down ages by year)
3. Give the number of males between the ages of 19 and 23 in all zip
codes in Orange County. (I can break down ages by year)

Hi again joelp,
I have compiled the data you requested into a Microsoft Excel file for
viewing. However, of the 148 known Zip Codes of Orange County, the
data is available for only 84 of them. It should be noted that ZIP
codes are assigned by the Postal Service, and the zip code information
used in the census data are self-reported by the residents living in
that area. Thus, some residents might not be aware of their real ZIP
code, resulting in some zip codes not having any data at all.
The missing zip codes appear to be sparcely populated areas. All
cities in Orange County are represented by at least 2 zip codes in the
reported data.
There are more detailed data available, such as by census tract and by
block levels, but you would need a map to determine where each census
tract corresponds to.
If this is acceptable, please let me know. If not, I hope that
another researcher will have better luck.
