"I am seeking the name of a well-known novel or story (like Catcher in the Rye or the Red Badge of Courage), published before 1980, with a major character who is a girl with the first name Tally. The novel or story is probably American, although I am not sure. | |

There is a novel called "Weather Eye" - well known on Summer Reading lists, with a main character called Telly. Could this be what you are thinking of? If not, let me know, I'll try again :) http://www.neiu.edu/~gspackar/howarth.htm -Rebekah |

The only thing I can think of that is well know is Up Close and Personal which was co-written by Joan Didion and Dunne. The problem is it isn't novel but a screenplay. There are any number of books with a heroine named "Tally"; everything from a series of mysteries featuring Tally McGinnis to, The Chandler's Daughter, to a fairly recent Grisham novel called A Painted House. If you could give me a bit more detail about the story I could probably find it for you but at the moment the possibilities are near endless |

The book What Do I Read Next? has a character search section. The only books listed under the character name Tally were: Denenberg, Barry When Will This Cruel War Be Over?: The Civil War Diary of Emma Simpson Grisham, John A Painted House: A Novel Hahn, Mary Downing Tallahassee Higgins Levitin, Sonia Annie's Promise Palmer, William J. The Highwayman and Mr. Dickens: An Account of the Strange Events of the Medusa Murders: a Secret Victorian Journal, Attributed to Wilkie Collins Sheffield, Charles Divergence Unfortunately all these books were published after 1980, but they all are American so I thought I would post my search results for you just in case. |
