I want to buy a 5-6" color LCD screen that has RCA or S-video input. The screen must have a brightness of around 200 nits or greater (bright enough for a car application with direct sunlight). To be clear, the LCD and the supporting hardware(such as the inverter if it is seperate) must be less then $145 (not including shipping) and I need to be able to currently buy it in qualities of 1. I am looking for a list of (or just one) specific sellers of LCDs that fit this criteria. | |

Seforest, When I was a kid, I dreamt about being able to watch TV or play my Atari (yes, Atari) in the car. But, it was only a dream. That was a long time ago. Longer than I care to remember. Now, you can watch TV, movies, play games, do almost anything in a car that you can at home. As with all technologies, the prices have come down. If you visit the link below, you will find several options for LCD screens between 5 and 6 inches that meet your requirements: http://www.shopping.com/DealSearch/GDS.cmp?BEFID=87712&Sort=0&Cat=4&MnPrc=0&MxPrc=145&DMKW=any&Mrw=0&MrId=9452&HsAtr=0&PgNum=1%20&gdsTop=&ShipId=G&SRID=b16ab37d3e70c922ca2ec654&MnfID=0&Atr1=4&Atr1Opr=%3D&Atr2=66&Atr2Opr=%3D Good luck in your shopping and enjoy those games on the road! If you need any further clarification, please let me know. Regards, -THV Search Strategy: "5 inch LCD" |

rated this answer:![]() I'm surprised at the availability of commercial LCD screens for that cheap. I spent a lot of time searching through LCD wholesalers and surplus supplies and found that they offered prices that were considerably higher then $150, didn't have the correct brightness, or didn't include the LCD controlling hardware or inverter. I see now that the manufacturers were from companies like Sharp whereas the one's I see available for < $150 are from companies unknown (to me at least). There wasn't any specs about the brightness of the LCD's but I'm sure I can figure that out before ordering; it seems implied that they would have the necessary brightness if they are being sold as mobile video LCD's. In any case, I probably would have ordered the expensive sharp one had I not asked this question so $4 spent is $60 saved. :) It's surprising the difference in a search of 5" LCD vs. 5 inch LCD :P |
