I am looking for a service bureau in the New York City area (Long
Island, nearby New Jersey)that will scan a document into the mrSID
format.

Alternatively, I seek a vendor anywhere in the U.S. who will convert a
TIFF file(or similar) to the mrSID format.

Greetings hlf-ga.

In the alternate case you mention, .TIFF or similar to .SID, where the
organisation that does the work may be remote from your location, how
would you propose to transfer files between yourself and the
organisation.. Possibly via email, or maybe via allowing them access
to an FTP server at your location?

I'm discussing several options with possible agents at the moment and
this issue has been raised.

I have some leads on information regarding doing the conversion
yourself, would you consider this an option or would you desire to
keep it as a 100% outsourced operation?

Indeed, are you hoping for a long standing arrangement for the
conversion of many files, or just a single batch, or even just one
image?

Thank you for the response.

This is a one-time operation. For the scanning I need a relatively
local service bureau because the document to be scanned is very
valuable and the owner does not want to trust it to any delivery
service. If the document is scanned by a local service bureau, ideally
it should be in the .sid format. If it is in another format, we move
on to the alternative.

To send the file to an out-of-area service bureau to be converted to
.sid format, I can place the file on my ftp server for them to fetch.
I think is much to be preferred over e-mail as the file will be very
large. The service burea can upload the completed .sid file to my ftp
server by logging in as anonymous.

The conversion software for a one-shot deal is simply too costly.

I hope this completely answers your need for clarification.

I have found one in particular so far, at the northern end of the
