Are you asking if both operating systems can be installed, or asking
if SuSE linux has the ability to use wins network protocol etc..?

Thanks in advance -

Sorry, I mean can Linux use WINS protocal. I am at a site where they
do not use DHCP, they use static IP's for all their clinets. In
addition, they also use a WINS server for Internet access. I cant find
where you can configure WINS.

Some blends of Linux can't use WINS, there only a few that can. I
don't think SuSE has it as an option.

OK, is there some sort of RPM you need to install to make it work?

Any linux box that has Samba 2.05 or higher installed should be able
to use WINS. From the Samba-HOWTO:

<quote>
To configure Samba to use a WINS server the following parameters are
needed in the /etc/smb.conf file:

# Do not act as a WINS server
wins support = No
# nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn is the IP address of your WINS server
wins server = nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn
</quote>

Most linux distributions come with Samba, SuSE included. If it's not
installed on your system, the rpm can be found at:

ftp://mirror.mcs.anl.gov/pub/suse/i386/8.1/suse/i586/samba-client-2.2.5-102.i586.rpm

Cheers,

SX
