Dear ajfly, Rather than answer your question directly, I think the best thing you could do is get in touch with the Rutgers Cooperative Extension service in your county. They will be able to advise you according to your exact location and conditions. "WHY USE YOUR EXTENSION AGENT? They offer great free advice with specific area knowledge. The best source for help is from your local Cooperative Extension Service. Each state government provides these services to taxpayers usually in association with a local university. In many cases they will actually come out and inspect your lawn and provide advice at no charge for the service. These are University trained people with the resources and knowledge to help you with any horticulture problem": http://www.turfhelp.com/info/extension.html NJ County Offices: http://www.rce.rutgers.edu/county/default.asp Additional Links: 1. Around the Neighborhood with Laura Kammel: "A new lawn can also be established by sodding. The best times to sod are spring and late summer/early fall. Fall sodding can be done until the ground freezes or is covered with snow." http://communitylink.discoveromaha.com/groups/517/FSLO-1029504033-495517.pdf. 4. Turf Web Links: http://www.btny.purdue.edu/extension/pathology/turfcast/turflinks.html That all said, my advice would be to wait until spring to be sure of success. If you have your heart set on sodding this fall, do it as soon as possible - sod should never be placed on frozen ground.
