What options, if any, are available for me to access the internet at
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), from either a dedicated
terminal or my own laptop fitted with a D-Link card? (I'll be in need
of acccess during a brief layover at around noon on 10/31/02.)

Greetings sdchap,

According the official LAX website, there are several options for
connecting to the Internet while visiting the airport:

Business and Entertainment Service: The Gate Escape offers business
services and entertainment features, such as Microsoft Office
software, Internet access, e-mail, laser printing, copying, faxing,
Federal Express overnight delivery service, U.S. local and
long-distance phone calls, Direct TV/DVD player and computer games.
Located at Terminals 7, 8, and Tom Bradley International -
Upper/Departure Level.

Cyberport Café: The Travel Right Cafe in Terminal 4 Departure Level.
Travelers with laptop computers, cellular phones and personal digital
assistants can easily hook up to a port to either stay connected,
cyber surf or renew their power supply at no charge while enjoying
refreshments. The cafe has 48 ports/phone jacks and electrical outlets
accommodating up to 68 users. Customers with a toll-free or local 310
area code access number from their Internet Service Provider (ISP),
such as America Online or Microsoft Network, can make the connection
for free. The customer is subject to ISP customary per-minute fees, if
applicable.

E-mail Access: Neptune Networks offers kiosks that provide Internet
access, giving passengers capability to send and receive e-mail as
well as surf the World Wide Web. Kiosks are located in Terminal 3, 7,
and 8 Upper/Departure Level and additional kiosks are located at the
Tom Bradley International Terminal Mezzanine Level. For further
information, please call 1-866-463-7886.

Internet Dataport Access: Available at all public telephones in
terminals.

This should give you several different options for getting online
during your layover. They don't really go into detail as to whether or
not they allow you to plug into high-speed access points using a
10/100 network card, but they definitely have standard dial-up modem
ports available. If your laptop doesn't have a modem, you can simply
use one of their kiosks for surfing or checking email. I would suggest
calling the 1-800 # listed above if you have specific questions about
where these facilities are located within the airport and/or whether
they allow high-speed internet access from a laptop.

You can access all of this information and more from their website
available here:

The information I listed above was obtained by clicking on "Passenger
Services" and then "Business Center" from the main menu. I hope this
has answered your question -- please let me know if I can be of
further assistance on this question. Otherwise, good luck on your
trip!

Sincerely,
PWizard
