Dumb newbie here.

I've just bought Dreamweaver MX but it can't install on my machine
(Windows XP). Macromedia support are taking too long to get back to me
and I'm pretty desperate, so I'll be really grateful if someone here
can help me out.

I'll give you specifics: I had installed Ultradev (trial version) on
my Windows 2000 machine before upgrading to WinXP. After purchasing
Dreamweaver MX, I tried to install DWMX on my machine (under the
Administrator account) ...

It got through to the InstallShield Wizard OK and manages to unpack
the cabinet files, but towards the end of unpacking the installation
files, it gives me the following error dialogue box:

An error occured while launching the setup

ClassFactory cannot supply requested class.

So I thought it was something to do with the Ultradev trial version. I
tried to uninstalled this in Add/Remove program, but it couldn't work
(it told me that it couldn't find a specific file) so didn't uninstall
properly. A friend of mine managed to delete the Program files
manually both on the hard disk and in the registry, and that worked
(in terms of getting it removed from the system), but I'm still
getting the same error when I try to install Dreamweaver MX.
Incidentally, now I can't even re-install the old Ultradev trial
program either (getting hte same error).

A basic google search showed that this is not exactly a common problem
for Dreamweaver.

I think this error has something to do Dreamweaver's dll files, so
maybe I'm sharing the dll with another application, and maybe this is
why I'm getting this problem? (FYI: I have disabled all my anti-virus
/ firewall software whilst installing.) At any rate, I have no idea
which dlls dreamweaver uses ...

Any advice on this problem is greatly appreciated.

thanks

Just so you know, I've tried uninstalling all the programs in my
system that I no longer use. I've also used StartCop to eliminate any
unnecessary programs that load at startup, but still to no avail.

I've also tried to install under Windows Safemode.

Perhaps there's an installation monitor within XP so that I can see
all the files that it has attempted to install -- and catch the one
that's tripping it up? -- if so, how do I use this?

I have also use the application Registry First Aid to check the
registry and remove any invalid entries.

This is usually either a permissions problem or a version problem. I'm
not finding anything Dreamweaver-specific, so I don't know what sort
of class they are trying to instantiate.
