I am graphing several data points ranging from a few thousand up to 1.3 million. Due to the large range of values, all the data points at the lower end of the scale appear flat. I want to know if there is a method for showing a visible break in the bar to indicate a gap in the scale. I've seen it done in other software but cannot seem to find a good method for representing a wide range of data using Excel charts. I want the Y axis to appear as below with a visible break in the bars (or some other method to indicate a break in the scale) that are greater than 400,000. 1,400,000 400,000 300,000 250,000 200,000 150,000 100,000 50,000 0 Thanks in advance. I never think of the future. It comes soon enough. --Albert Einstein |

there is no way to do a break, but when the range is so large people use a "logarithmic scale" that magnifies the small values. select y axis, use Format Axis Scale, check logarithmic scale, specify range say 500, 2000000, you get a very nice chart. this from someone who developed excel . . . hope it helps |
