Hello relievebelarus,
According to the 1990 United States census, the overall population of
the country was 248,709,873. Of that number, 18,264,096 (7.34% of the
total population) were under five years old.

The 2000 census shows an overall population of 281,421,906, with
19,175,798 (6.81% of the total population) under five years old.

This is a relative decrease of .53% in the under-5 population
(percentage of under-5's in 1990 versus that calculation for 2000).
The absolute size of the under-5 age group increased from 1990 to 2000
by almost exactly 5% (4.99%). The country's overall population
increased by 13.15% in that same ten year period. Clearly, the U.S.
population is skewing older.
