Hi pix1105,

Thanks for your question.

I have been having the same problem for the last month. Telephone
support to HP (on my dime) has been less than satisfactory, to say the
least and after multiple calls, I was able to get one tech to admit it
is a known problem and being worked on. Email to support was even less
satisfying and I found myself wondering if they even read my messages
and longed for the "old" HP.

In my case, even though I had a partially complete installation and
the software showed in the "Add and Remove Programs" section of
Control Panel, what was installed would not uninstall from here, nor
from the HP Uninstall on the Start Menu, nor by their recommended
method of using the CD to reinstall, then selecting remove software as
an option. What was installed was stuck.

I am very proficient in using Windows, and if you are not, do not
attempt any of my methods, but I manually removed all entries in the
folders created by theHP 6122 software installation, cleaned the Start
Menu and edited the registry for any sign of either "deskjet" or
"6122".

Several days ago, HP posted an new driver on their website at
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwareList.jhtml?reg=&cc=&prodId=hpdeskjet683027&lc=en&softitem=Microsoft%20Windows%20XP&sw_lang=en
. Do get this version.

It installs totally differently. Read the directions. You will
disconnect your printer, reboot, connect the printer and hopefully see
the add remove hardware wizard. Point it to the NEW driver and the
printer will install correctly. HOWEVER, this method will not install
the ancillary HP utilities such as Printer Assistant, which I
personally do not see a need for. You will be functional at this
point.

I have sent so many complaints to HP on this driver that I have a
third tier support engineer assigned to me personally who calls me
every few days. I am testing solutions for them and will not let this
rest until they have completely provided a working set of software. I
suggest that you subscribe to their notification service for new
drivers on the above mentioned page, and watch for a new version
perhaps as soon as next month.

I hope this will get you up and running and trust this answers your
question. Do ask for clarification if required.

Regards,
