Hi Wild Bill,
Firstly DMOZ/Yahoo - Yahoo editors almost certainly don't spend more
than a moment looking at submissions, and they want $299 a year. DMOZ
editors come in many varieties - some are very pedantic in following
guidelines, and others (like myself) just try to list sites which are
useful to the surfer. Let me know the category you submitted to (and
how long ago), and I'll give you an opinion of why it hasn't been
accepted.
Now, Google. I answer many queries regarding a drop in ranking at
Google (both here and elsewhere). Recently the problem appears to be
something that is mentioned on the Google "Webmaster Dos and Don'ts"
page:
Don't "Participate in link exchanges for the sole purpose of
increasing your ranking in search engines."
Recent changes to the Google algorithm have been quite ruthless in
this regard (in my opinion). The software has become very skilled at
determining when a link is solely to improve ranking. The sites that
Google lists as linking to your site are:
www.wildcontacts.com/colored-contacts-8.htm
www.wildcontacts.com/contact-lenses-7.htm
http://www.coloredcontacts.com/colored-contacts-8.htm
http://www.coloredcontacts.com/contact-lenses-7.htm
Every link on these extremely similar pages point to your site. The
pages do not appear to be linked to from any other part of
wildcontacts.com or coloredcontacts.com. I can imagine that these two
points could suggest to Google software that the sole purpose of these
pages is to influence ranking.
My suggestions to remedy the problem:
1) Have the above 4 pages removed. Submitting their URL after they are
gone will remove them from the Google index.
2) Seek genuine links from other websites. Being listed on Yahoo alone
is of great value, but being mentioned on other sites is better still.
Best wishes,

As a follow up to your offer: "Let me know the category you submitted
to (and
how long ago), and I'll give you an opinion of why it hasn't been
accepted." I have been submitting to DMOZ once a month for over a
year usually to the following catagory: (Shopping: Health: Vision:
Contact Lenses), and a week or so ago to (Health: Medicine: Medical
Specialties: Ophthalmology: Refractive Correction: Contact Lenses) in
an attempt to use a different reviewer. Again any insite would sure be
appreciated.

The editor of Shopping: Health: Vision: Contact Lenses last edited the
category on Aug 11. He or she doesn't appear to have much experience,
and may have lost interest. It is also possible that he/she became an
editor for the sole purpose of listing a site they have an interest
in.
Ordinarily the next best person to approach would be the next editor
you can find by moving up through the levels of the directory, which
would be Geiger in Shopping: Health...
...but you will still find it impossible to get your site listed. Any
DMOZ editor who tries to list it will see this message in red, dated
May 12, 2012:
Do Not List
Mirror site of http://www.coloredcontacts.com/ which is already listed
in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Health/Vision/Contact_Lenses/
Which is quite correct - it is DMOZ policy not to list mirror sites,
and not to list the same site more than once (except where it also
qualifies for a regional category).
I would therefore not expect to it be listed in the Health: Medicine:
Medical Specialties: Ophthalmology: Refractive Correction: Contact
Lenses category either.

Would you please inform us as to how we can get DMOZ to review this
site now since it has been reformatted so as too no longer be a mirror
site that brought the following critique:
"you will still find it impossible to get your site listed. Any
DMOZ editor who tries to list it will see this message in red, dated
May 12, 2012:
Do Not List
Mirror site of http://www.coloredcontacts.com/ which is already listed
in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Health/Vision/Contact_Lenses/"
Would it not at least qualify under a regional catagory or do we have
to obtain a completely new URL?

I'm afraid the damage is already done with this particular domain
name. Even if the red message was removed (difficult, because you are
obviously still trying to obtain two listings for the same business),
there will still be editing notes associated with URL, from various
editors. This is because when an editor chooses not to list a
submission, they have to give a reason.
A new URL could work, but you would need to make sure that the content
is quite different from every other site listed in the category you
submit to. It is a giveaway if you use the same image of the eyes, for
example.
