I found that the easiest way to accomplish a feat such as this, was to go to my local Town Hall and look through the Town Records. Yes, a tedious job, but very rewarding. And, because I began my search locally, I was able to branch out further and further, as I came across more and more names. |

There is no single source, that I am aware of, for US and Confederate Civil War dead. There are many many sites for CW cemeteries with lists, etc. You will need to identify more specific information (ie location, regiment, etc.) in order to narrow it down. As for the soldiers who fought - a first look should be into the US Soldiers and Sailors System database, from the NPS, at www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/ This is a fine site which provides basic information for a large number of Civil War soldiers and sailors. |
