Italian painter, painting people standing in holes, very naturalistic
Who is/was he ?

Clarification of Question by johnniss-ga on 02 Nov 2002 12:19 PST
The holes seems cylindric ca 1 meter in diameter and ca 1-1.5 meter
deep relative to the person standing in it. I remember one painting
where there were a 2D arangement of such holes where the persona were
all busy engagaged in communication with each other, but nobody would
seemingly leave his/her hole.
The paintings were naturalistic but old fashioned or should I say
classic style

The Belgian surrealist René Magritte used holes in several of his
paintings. The "sea of holes" episode in the animated Beatles movie
"Yellow Submarine" is said to be a tribute to Magritte.

The Italian painter Giorgio di Chirico is another possibility. He did
a series of paintings showing people half-submerged in water, and
visible from the waist up.

More details would be very helpful.

I have tried to clarify the motives of the painter, and I have tried
to see if Giorgio di Chirico is the man but none of the paintings i
found on the net was what i was looking for and his style seems a
little too modern.

Do you mean Alessandro Bavari?

Alessandro Bavari, seems close he certainly has holes and people in
them, but not i'm still not sure even after an extensive search on the
net, whith several of his works. His palette is very narrow, and he
uses digital phototechnics nowaday. His has painted in earlier times,
but i couldn't find any of his earlier works.
The painter I look for made works where the scene is relative close to
the viewer < 15 meters and each person has his own hole.
