I want to know how, or with what inexpensive software, I can create an
index of CD-roms that I have recently created. I want to be able to
search for the name, type, creation date, etc as in Sherlock and then
be instructed to insert the correct disk. Must work on OS 8.6 or 9

the file is autocat, and it sounds like exactly what you need
