Could you get me as much data as possible on school dropouts, broken
down by race, geographical area, socioeconomic status, etc. Once you
have a picture of school dropouts in this country, would you get
comparable data on completion rates in other industrialized countries?
 Finally, I would like to get some psychological studies of students
who drop out. For what reasons do they drop out? To get a job,
because they are learning disabled, they are bored? Why do they
report that they are dropping out?

BT766 --

Your question has three parts: demographics of U.S. dropouts;
comparisons to other industrialized countries; why? Parts 1 and 3 are
answerable; part 2 is difficult becuase of differences between
education systems. Many industrialized countries triage students at
about age 14 or 15, putting many into what would be termed "vocational
education" in North America.

If you can accept a response knowing that international comparables
will be problematic, I think you'll get a researcher's response.

Best regards,
