Steep 10% Rise in High Tech Wages in Last Six Months by Judy Maltz
Published by Israel's Business Arena on 2 October, 2000
In March-September 2000, an unprecedented 10% increase was posted in
the average wage of high tech professions in demand, mainly in
development fields. Following the hike, a software engineer with five
years experience earns an average NIS 18,000 a month and a hardware
engineer with similar experience earns close to $20,000. This emerges
from a periodic report, known as "the Zviran index", by Prof. Moshe
Zviran of the Tel Aviv University School of BusinessManagement.

High-tech salaries continue to slide across the board by Haim Bior
Ha'aretz Labor Correspondent May 4, 2001
Salaries for senior high-tech personnel have declined by 6 percent
since the beginning of the year, and are down 15 percent compared
to the beginning of 2000, according to a study of salaries in the
high-tech sector conducted by Heshev Information Systems. A software
engineer who is not in a managerial position today earns (without a
company car) NIS 12,000-13,000 a month, about NIS 1,000 less than at
the beginning of the year.

The monthly salary of an Internet software engineer with one year
of experience ranged from NIS 12,000 to NIS 18,000 in the fourth
quarter of 2000, down from NIS 14,000 to NIS 21,000 in the third
quarter.

"The average engineer in Israel earns at least 10 percent to 25
percent less than the average engineer in the U.S." Another manager
estimated Israelis bring home about half of what U.S. engineers do.
A software engineer can earn $3,000 per month, or $36,000 per
year, to start, plus a company car - a common benefit. At more
established companies, an extra "13th or 14th [monthly]"
paycheck is not uncommon. At startups, of course, the incentives
might include eventual ownership and stock options. (1998)
