sixtwoandeven,

The song to which you are most likely referring is "Lust for Life",
with music by David Bowie and lyrics by Iggy Pop.

According to Royal Caribbean's Press Release from August 12, 2002:
"You know the campaign. You've seen the TV commercials and hummed
along with the Iggy Pop song, "Lust for Life," as it pounds out over
fast-paced visuals of cruise vacationers..."

David H.N. Brechbiel's "And Now A Word From Our Sponsors" page
(halfway down) confirms that a cover of David Bowie's song "Lust for
Life" appears in Royal Caribbean commercials:

A description, track listing, and reviews for Iggy Pop's album "Lust
For Life" appears here:

Amazon's 30-second audio clip of the song can be accessed here
(requires RealOne audio player):

CDNow's 30-second Windows Media Player clip of the song can be
accessed here:

Lyrics for the song can be viewed at "Teenage Wildlife", a David Bowie
interactive fan site:

Just in case "Lust for Life" is not the song of which you are
thinking:
According to MPL Communications' "Songs Featured In Commercials" page,
an older
Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines commercial used the song "Unchained
Melody":

A sound clip of the Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody" is at
CDnow.com:

I believe I know who you are referring to, but I want to be sure. You
do mean the Royal Carribean Cruise Line Alaska commercials correct?

The song was also heavily featured in the movie 'Trainspotting'...

Its rather funny that a song about heroin addiction is used to promote
family cruises.

deepfreq,

You are right; I have always found it quite amusing that Wrangler
jeans chose to promote their product using Creedence Clearwater
Revival's "Fortunate Son"
http://www.cent.com/abetting/Jon1202.html

and that Burger King used Judas Priest's "Another Thing Coming" to
sell hamburgers:
