I am on the search for outstanding interior designers for homes and/or hotels online. I would prefer people/companies working out of Europe. I also like oriental-styled designs. Where can I find those online? | |

Taste is so individual, I'm not sure how well one can narrow down for you the huge number of talented interior designers on the internet! You say you're seeking a designer for both home and hotel work, so I started the search at Hotel Designs ( http://www.hoteldesigns.co.uk ), which recently reviewed the work on the NH Brussels Airport Hotel of the Ransley Group http://www.ransleygroup.com/ You might particularly enjoy their work on the public rooms of the Stuttgart International Centre ( http://www.ransleygroup.com/stuttgart.html ), which, though not oriental in theme, does somewhat echo those warm rich colours. Mining the Open Directory ( Regional> Europe> [various country names]> Business and Economy ) produced a number of leads, from which I've selected an intriguing sample reflecting high-quality work in various styles. Here are links to the English-language versions of each site: Marie-Claude Rogier, http://www.mcrogier-interior-design-provence.com/ "Marie-Claude specializes in renovating old historical buildings in [Provence, France] dating back as far as the 11th century but is also adept in designing restaurants, modern houses, bed & breakfasts and boutiques." View her portfolio of designs "combining the essential elements of space, light and charm..." Joehnk Interior Design http://www.joehnk.com/en/index.html "At this point in time, our work is concentrated in Germany, Poland and England but we also carried out international projects in Russia, Austria, Switzerland, Chile and Belgium. " Hotel and commercial work, rather than residential; do check their portfolio for the Robinson Club, Fleesensee and the japanese-inspired dining room at the Swissôtel, Neuss. John David Edison Interior Design Inc. http://www.johndavidedison.com/ "... specializes in the design and planning of international luxury projects. Our mission is to provide the highest level of professional service, with a personal and hands-on approach. We expect our clients to participate closely in the design process, yet be surprised and delighted by the completed project.... Condominiums and Apartment Complexes, Country Clubs, Private Residences and Hotels in Japan, Hong Kong, Peoples Republic of China, Middle East, United States and Canada." Andres Escobar & Associes http://www.escobardesign.com/index_ang.html This is a Flash-based site that my browser didn't much like, but what I've seen of Escobar's projects in the magazines suggests a truly imaginative company. Based in Montreal Canada, with many international clients. Finally, if none of those designers match your tastes, you might do an "Image Search" on a combination of terms such as "interior designer" and "portfolio" http://images.google.ca/images?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&safe=off&q=%22interior+designer%22+portfolio for inspiration, and to give us a little more sense of what you have in mind? [This is a Comment rather than an attempt at an Answer as I'm not an official researcher, just couldn't resist the challenge of your question.] |

Great comment. I do agree, there is much diversity and taste out there. The difference between home and hotel design is not necessarily very big. My personal goal at the moment is to see as much as possible out there and locate spot new und brave talent in the old world. Links such as the english hoteldesigns site are extremely helpful, even that it is scary how alike those are in many ways, I hope that you fantastic comment will not scare off any researchers. They can surely find even more out there. Regards from Salvador de Bahia Thorsten |

Thorsten, how I envy you that Bahia climate! With all the snowstorms here, however, I've been tempted to do just a little more "surfing" to exotic locations, like lovely European holiday spots... So, if I may add just one additional thought to techtor-ga's great list of resources: Design Hotels can be excellent showcases of contemporary design talent and often have virtual galleries on thier websites: the famed Gastwerk Hotel in Hamburg ( http://www.gastwerk-hotel.de/englisch/lofts.html ) is one good example. Designer Hotels "In the last decade, the phenomenon of the design hotel has made a substantial impact on the choices available o business and leisure travellers. These hotels are often small, independently owned, with an emphasis on innovation and modernity. Traditionally frequented by executives from the film, fashion and music industries, they are also becoming increasingly popular with discerning business travellers looking for an alternative hotel experience." [goes on to describe a dozen or so European hotels] http://www.ontoeurope.com/features/mar02/d_hotel.htm A search on"design hotel" and "designers" turned up even more possibilities: ://www.google.ca/search?q=%22design+hotel%22+designers&ie=ISO-8859-1&hl=en&meta= -- I think I'll be browsing "dream vacations" for the rest of the day, now! |
