milt_reeder,

There come times when a business has to stop, look at itself, and
determine if there is enough expertise and experience to survive.
Sometimes, by no fault of their own, company owners simply don't have
the tools to make a company work. This is where turnaround
specialists come in. Turnaround, also known as corporate renewal, has
been a viable industry for quite a long time. However, with the
recent drop in the dotcom industry, the corporate renewal professional
is seeing a huge upswing. Whether it is taking over, on an interim
basis, for key positions such as CFO, or simply rewriting a business
plan, turnaround professionals can be the key element in allowing a
company to survive.

There are literally hundreds of turnaround companies and
professionals. Below is a list of several, with their website and

This is helpful. More specifically, I'm looking for the firms that
INVEST in turnarounds, not just consultants who, for a fee, will give
you advice on turning around the company.

Thanks for the clarification. Are you looking for firms, individuals
or funds, commonly referred to as vulture funds, that invest in
turnarounds?

THV,

I'm looking for individuals or funds that invest in turnarounds. Not
VCs who really focus primarily on new companies. Vulture funds
qualify and maybe there are organizations or associations of
individuals who invest in troubled companies.

Milt..

Suprisingly, there are a great number of companies that take the risk
in investing in depressed or struggling companies either through
individual investment, funds or groups. Most are focused on real
estate turnarounds, however, there are a few that look at companies.
The list below are companies that are based in the Unites States. If
you need any other countries, please let me know and I will see what I
can find:

KPS Special Situations Fund, LLC
http://www.kpsfund.com/index.htm
Funds specifically set up for investment in turnarounds. Over $210
million in committed capital.

Starweaver
http://www.starweaver.com/index.html
Focuses on technology and communication sectors

Plantagenet Capital
http://www.plantagenetcapital.com/
Current fund is focused on financial and Information services and
international B2B companies.

Questor
http://www.questorfund.com/
Invests in companies with annual revenues ranging from $100 million to
$2 billion.

Weiss, Peck & Greer

Everything from traditional buy-out to consolidations

Wellspring Capital Management
http://www.wellspringcapital.com/
Steers away from telecommunications, high technology, real estate and
commodity-based businesses

Wingate Partners
http://www.wingatepartners.com/
Seems to focus on aquistions

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need any additional
information.
