Hi All, I am looking for the most economical solution for a shipping problem. (Read: Most optimal. Need to optimize between transit time and price) I am interested in shipping a fresh food product that spoils rapidly, from Hungary to the US (California), quantity say about 100kg to 200kg per shipment. Thanks, vlad |

Vlad, Hmmm. Wouldn't be grapes, would it? (re. your earlier question). I'm not prepared to answer the question, but you also need to consider USDA regulations about import of fresh fruits. You can buy your barrels in California; perhaps you should consider Hungarian varietals grown in California also. My guess is you are trying to replicate as close as possible a "true" Hungarian wine. Remember the scene in "Dracula" when Vlad shipped his soil with him? Maybe you could do that, along with some Hungarian varietal vines! (OK, now I'm being a smart alec!!! :) Good Luck. |

Actually, it has absolutely nothing to do with grapes. I should have noted that in my question. |

Vlad, You may have to be a little more specific on what you intend to ship. I happen to be currently (amongst many other things) dealing with the shipment of lots of food (fresh and otherwise) over long distances; by ship/truck/plane. How you ship your product, and the attendant costs, will partially be predicated upon what kind of product it is. For instance, bread and meat and apples all have different requirements for shipment. Will you need dry ice? Will the product be previously frozen, or chilled, or is room temperature shipping OK? Perhaps you could contact a Hungarian importer/exporter for some guidance. At the end of the document in the following link are some possible sources of info: http://www.fas.usda.gov/htp/News/News01/News0401/Hungary4-6-01gain.PDF I'm an agriculture guy, so your question fascinates me. I'm sorry if I'm wasting your time!!! |
