I saw a movie on cable when I was about 8 or 9 (about 15 years ago) A
man goes around a small town and kills almost everybody, but I forget
how. It involved a frying pan at some point but I can't remember the
details. At the end there is a police car and the good guy kills the
bad guy by shooting through the door of the car. This takes place in a
desert or desolate area.

Can you provide us with any more details? Was the film a made-for-TV
type of thing or was it a movie that had been theatrically released?
Do you remember the time period of the movie (e.g. set in the 70s)?
Any actors at all?

luciaphile-ga, unfortunately I was unable to provide any other details
except those in the original question.

robertskelton-ga has identified the movie title I seek in Comments and
I will award this question to him. Please post a formal answer.

robertskelton-ga, thanks for traking this down with so little, and
even some incorrect information.

I would also like to thank luciaphile-ga, for the quick response and
attentiveness.

Hi there,

I believe it is a 1991 film "Kid", starring C. Thomas Howell. A
scathing review of it is at Epinions:

More details at IMDB:

I rented it on video at least 10 years ago, because I thought it
sounded similar to "The Hitcher" which I totally loved. All I remember
is a cop, a diner waitress, a frying pan (no idea what role it played)
and lots of desert.

Best wishes,

First-rate answer. In this case, there was very little information
about the movie on the internet but robertskelton(-ga) stepped up to
the plate with personal knowledge. The Google Answers research team
seems to be a very diverse crowd. As a first time user of the service,
I will most definately use it again.

Not quite the timeframe you give, but there's a 1991 film "Kid"
starring C. Thomas Howell that might be it. A scathing review of it is
at Epinions:
