As a network administrator with about 20 sites, some running Netware
and some running NT, I can tell you a couple of things I like about
GroupWise. First, it's got some great management tools. Be sure to get
a recent copy of GWCK (GroupWise Check) from the Novell site. It does
an excellent job of checking your system, fixing inconsistencies,
expiring old messages, dumping e-mail out of users' trash folders when
they refuse to take the time, etc.
You can also sleep better at nights when it comes to virus problems
because they're all targeted at MS Outlook instead of GW clients. If
you've got clients who get tons of e-mail and you worry about
address-book virii, GW will make things much better.
But be prepared to be on the outside looking on a lot of the time.
Everything in the industry is focused on Exchange Server and Outlook.
I think it mostly comes down to whether you're running Netware or NT
servers. The Novell site has some comparisons you can check out. I
doubt the Microsoft site does, since they just pretend GroupWise
doesn't exist. |
