Hello agale
The new Care Standards Act doesn't actually put learning disability in
a separate category of its own. All care homes, including those for
people with a learning disability, are expected to meet the standards
set out in these two documents:
Care Homes for Younger Adults and Adult Placements
Care Homes for Older People
These "regulations and standards form the basis of the new regulatory
framework under the Care Standards Act (2000) for the conduct of care
homes".
'Residential Special Schools' is another detailed document which is
important if you are interested in children or teenagers with a
learning disability.
All these documents can be downloaded either from the:
National Care Standards Commission
http://www.carestandards.org.uk/nation+min.+standards/default.htm
or the Department of Health
http://www.doh.gov.uk/ncsc
You will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer
to read them. If you don't already have it, you can download it free
from:
Acrobat Reader download
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html).
You can also order print versions of the care standards documents
from:
TSO online bookstore
http://www.tso.co.uk/bookshop/bookstore.asp?
TSO also offers many other publications which might be of interest.
You might also find these articles useful. (Don't miss the links at
the end of each article.)
