I need to find out where my father, Karl Syfrig, was born in
Switzerland (purpose: I need birth certificate, passport, or
something).

His death certificate is on ancestry.com (only one hit).

I will then need two items:

- whether he registered his marriage to my mom at the Swiss consulate
(or my
birth)...by the way I highly doubt it.

- whether he has unclaimed assets, either in King County Washington
where he lived and worked (for United and/or Pan Am Airlines) or in
Spain where he retired and died (I doubt there's anything in
Switzerland or anywhere else).

Hello--

What is your mother's name, including her maiden name?
Also, what was his date of death? Do you know his date of birth?

Carol Falk (maiden)

After Syfrig, there was also Lopacich (and a couple other last names,
but she only used them for a very short time - measured in months)

As stated in my previos comments where I summarized the information
that I knew, my father's birthday is Feb 1 1914 (which I never knew
growing up), and he died on Nov 17, 1997.

There is no answer at this time.

There are different levels of Swiss citizenship.
The following page gives a good explanation and might help:
http://www.eye.ch/swissgen/CH-burger-e.html

Your father must have been a "Bürger von ..." (town, village). There
should be additional information at this "home community".

Sorry, I wasn't able to find the death certificate on ancestry.com you
mentioned.

They just changed ancestry.com (it's much harder to find now):

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=ssdi&ti=0&gsfn=karl&gsln=syfrig&ltpop=1&prox=1&yeart=a&ti=0&sourceid=2524&submit.x=23&submit.y=15&gss=angs&gs=syfrig+karl

The above gives you the summary - which I have copied here:

	ssn: 535-32-3511
	born: Feb 1 1914
	died: Nov 17, 1997
residence:	745 ,U.S. Consulate: SPAIN (MADRID)
	Issued: WA (1951 And 1953).

The following is the scan of the death certificate:

http://www.ancestry.com/ssdi/ss-5.asp?fn=KARL&ln=SYFRIG&ss=535-32-3511&bd=1+Feb+1914&dd=17+Nov+1997

I have requested the SS-5 form, which I'm still waiting on.

One piece of the puzzle starts falling into place: Your information
explains why the Swiss Consulate told me that I had to find out which
village he was from, the "home community" according to your
information, before I could proceed. And that's the rub - I have no
idea how to find out where that is, and the consulate was of no help,
and neither is any other family member that I know about (as strange
as that may sound).

(end goals: I'm looking to see if this gives me work privileges, in
Switzerland and eventually the EU (I know Switzerland is not a full
member of the EU). I know I am his only progeny but was never
acknowledged, hence the inquery into any unclaimed assets)

Thanks!
-N

If I understand your answer correctly the SS-5 form should mention the
place of birth. And this would lead you to the "home comunity" and
should answer your question.

By the way, the information given by ancestry.com ist also available
on
