Hello,
Aymen M. Ibrahem has written a very long paper on the word eclipse and
I quote from this paper (linked to below):
"The Egyptologists have inappropriately interpreted the Egyptian
hieroglyph symbol akhet as the horizon. The author shows that the
hieroglyph symbol akhet stands for 'solar eclipse' not the horizon."
As for oasis, a PBS topology webpage on the Sahara states:
"The word "oasis" is believed to come from an ancient Egyptian word,
"wah," meaning "fertile place in the desert.""
Unfortunately I was not able to find a hieroglyph for wah. I hope I
answered your question. Thanks!
