What is the root depth for mangroves in the southern Florida Everglades? I am interested in taking soil core samples in the region. How deep would these soil cores need to be in order to get a representative sample of all mangrove roots in a sample? Please give me an answer within 24 hours. |

Hello, Well I did a brief search and I think I found a clue for you. The depth typically of mangroves is around 50cm. Although this is for mangroves in Australia, it is likely to be similar in southern flordia since mangrove seeds tend to travel by water. "When we examine the soil near the mangrove stand it is found to be completely interpenetrated with roots to a depth of 50 cm or more." source: http://bugs.bio.usyd.edu.au/mangroves/html/physadap.html This site may also have other very useful information for your project. So I would sample another 50 cm further down. It may go down about 1 meter, . I hope this helps. regards rcd-ga search strategy mangrove root depth OR length site:.au |
