My internet explorer was running great on my Titanium G4 Powerbook
until recently. Everytime I try to view a larger version of a
thumbnail, it says, "unable to view JPEG, can not find plug-in." It
displays all pics, including jpegs fine in an html/ lay-out
environment. But everytime I clicked on "Click on thumbnail to view
larger version" link, a little puzzle icon with a slash on it appear,
and the notice. This also happens even when I try to drag and drop an
image I have saved onto my hard disk into IE.
Here is the exact error message:" Internet Explorer doesn't know how
to handle the file you have selected. You can choose to save the file
to your disk or configure a Helper Application for this file. MIME
type: Image/jpeg."

So now when I want to view a thumbnail's original size, I have to
click and hold the mouse and save it directly onto my desktop, and
then click it open from my computer environment, what a pain!

So how can I fix this so that I can view all kinds of images like I
used to? BTW, I re-installed IE multiple times, run Norton utilities,
still no use. FYI, I have just de-installed a freeware called
i-getter, an automatic download manager, fearing that it may have been
the culprit, to no avail. It seems that my IE is still missing
something even after I re-downloaded the latest version from CNET/
MSN.com and re-install. Help!

Greetings noodleeater-ga (...er, what type of noodles?)!

It sounds like you were referring to the comment I posted. As such, I
am posting it as the answer:

----
Go to Edit...Preferences...and then select File Helpers. Next, scroll
down through the list until you get to the JPEG Picture section. Look
for the one with the MIME type of .jpeg. Select that one and click on
Change.

Next, make certain the correct information is entered. Is Handling
set to "View with Browser"? Is there a valid Application associated
with .jpeg? Etc.

Do you encounter this problem only when viewing .jpegs or also when
viewing .jpgs?
----

I hope this information is helpful. If you would like for me to
clarify any part of my answer or further research your question,
please let me know before issuing a rating. Thanks!

Are you running Jaguar (10.2), or an earlier MacOS?

Hi,
Sorry I forgot to say, my mac is running Mac OS 9.1. No I don't recall
installing jaguar (don't even know what that is). I do remember
however that I did installed another freeware, a utility that help
download all images on a webpage automatically (this is in addition to
i-getter). But that utility was so problematic, I de-installed it.
Hope this helps to clarify things abit more.
