I want to buy a used car. I know that dealers charge way more than
individuals but there is risk with buying from individuals. And who
knows if you're getting a good price? Is there such a thing as a used
car finder that charges a fee and finds you a great deal and gives
good advice on what are the best cars to buy, etc. I would not want
them to profit by adding to the price of the car, but only to earn a
fee. I live in Scottsdale, Arizona and I want to find the names of
some of these companies or individuals.

I have not heard of such a job title where one finds used ( or new )
cars for other individuals for an incentive. This is primarily
because, people who are knowledgeable with automobiles and
buying/selling vehicles, have business reselling them. Its much more
easy to simply buy a vehicle and resell if for 2,000 dollars more than
to make $100 off of one individual party assisting them in finding a
good deal. My best advice to you is to look into the following
resources:

1) Kelly blue Book. Below I have listed the URL for this resource.
Kelly Blue Book actually can tell you what a vehicle is worth
depending on certain criteria that you can choose from. For instance,
lets say you found a 93 Honda Civic 4 door LX that you are interested
in purchasing. The car has 93,000 miles on it and it has a cracked
windshield. Simply go to the Kelly blue book, identify the vehicle
as a 93 Honda Civic 4 Door LX, and just below, you would put a check
in the box that says " broken windshield ". The web site will then
create an estimated value of the car depending on what area you are
located in, the mileage, and the vehicle condition (ie cracked
windshield). The value given will be a)private seller value b) trade
in value. The private seller value will be higher because most
people can get more for a vehicle if selling privately rather than
trading it in on a new vehicle.

2) Car fax. Car fax is also another GREAT online source for anyone
looking to purchase a vehicle. What the car-fax service does, is
simply takes any VIN(vehicle identification number) of a vehicle and
gives you precise information regarding, accidents, mileage fallacies,
factory recalls, and more.

3) Automotive shops. Most automotive places will inspect a specific
vehicle for a very small fee. If you determine that you have found a
great deal on an automobile, simply tell the seller that you would
like to take it and get an inspection. For this expect to pay no more
than 50$. If the seller objects to this, then, the vehicle most
likely, has more problems than meets the eye.

4) Auto trader. The auto-trader is another great online resource that
will allow you to search nation wide for cars that have been listed
through them. With auto-trader, you simply enter your specific zip
code, and make and model of what your looking for, along with the
price range that your willing to spend, and auto-trader will give you
a complete list with contact information of all sellers that are
applicable.

Dont be afraid to purchase a used vehicle. With patience and the
resources I have listed above, you can easily find a great, dependable
and very affordable vehicle!

Morning, horombu!

A cursory search for a broker in your area yielded no results. I'll
leave that to the researchers. However, I do have a comment to make.

I beg to differ with nxtek about the existence of auto brokers. Here
are the
three references I've found:

Some brief, but good advice, about how to hire a car broker is on this
page of a comprehensive website dealing with buying a used car. You
might find the other pages informative.

Parkers Guide to Everything About Buying Used Cars
http://www.parkers.co.uk/buying/used_buying_guide/buyingguide38.asp

___________

Also, here's another good general guide which lists 'Four Methods
Commonly Used To Buy Cars.'

"The second method, which we sometimes recommend, is that you hire an
auto broker. Brokers can find a car matching your specifications, get
the best financing, negotiate for you, and deliver the vehicle to your
doorstep. If you have a trade, they'll find a buyer for it as well."

Smart Motorist - How to Buy a Car
http://www.smartmotorist.com/buy/buy.htm

__________

Yet another reference:

Armchair Millionaire: Common Sense Saving and Investing
http://www.armchairmillionaire.com/survey/survey4.2.02.shtml

Towards the bottom of the page you'll find this:
"I bought a 5 year old used car through an experience, professional,
Car Broker recommended to me through a friend. I paid her $200. It was
the best $200 I ever spent. My Broker found me a wonderful car - a 5
years old Saturn, with 35,000 miles and exactly what I wanted. She
checked all records for flood damage or any other potential problems.
The car is now 10 years old, 120,000 miles and has been wonderful-no
trouble at all. I hope to drive it at least two more years. I wanted a
good, reliable used car because it costs less, insurance is lower, and
taxes are lower. I will use a Car Broker again when I am ready to
purchase, for I know nothing about car buying.

Perhaps if you contact the webmasters of these sites, you might be
able to get a list of brokers close to you, or some pointers about how
to get such a list?

Good luck and regards,

Buying a used car from a dealer or an Individual is an equal risk.
You can't trust any of them. Honestly the best way to buy usually
through someone you know. Becuase you know how they treated the car,
and the milage they used, etc...
Good luck in your search.
