Thank you for your question. It's interesting to me in particular,
since I am usually on the other side of the equation - trying to *be*
a so-called "freelancer" and convince people to pay me for sitting at
home surfing the web, ah, working.
In no case is inclusion in this list intended as an endorsement for
the quality of product, however.

KASAMBA
Unlike google answers, at kasamba "experts" are divided into different
specialties, and you can submit a bid to an expert, or the expert can
submit bids to you. For example, someone on kasamba recently asked
"how much would I charge for a particular programming task"; I said
"$300", but he was able to find another expert there willing to do it
for only $50.00, so I ddn't get that job.

SMARTERWORK
Another site for contract jobs is smarterwork at
http://www.smarterwork.com. I will quote the description from another
google answer: https://answers.google.com/answers/main?cmd=threadview&id=71183
:
For projects beyond the simple question, SMARTERWORK offers you the
ability to post your project, select your expert, and pay for your
results.
5 simple steps to getting the job done
* Client posts Project and receives quotes
* Client selects Service Provider based on price, reputation and
rating.
* Client and Service Provider develop project in "My Office", a
private online workspace.
* Client gives final approval of project.
Payment is released from escrow holding account and Client and Service
Provider provide mutual feedback.

GOOGLE ANSWERS
Let me conclude by mentioning that it is possible to use google
answers could be used for some jobs, as long as:
1. You can break the job up into roughly $200 chunks
2. You don't mind the questions and answers being public .
--------------
Search Strategy
---------------
I began by listing Kasamba, since I have personal experience there.
I remembered a similar question being posted, although targeted more
towards question-answering sites, on google answers here:
https://answers.google.com/answers/main?cmd=threadview&id=71183 .
So I also listed the "project-based" sites included in the answer to
that question.
Finally, I searched on "elance contractedwork" in order to try and get
directories of such sites. I found a site:
http://www.innove8.com/money/workfromhome.html
that listed resources for "freelancers". I went through the list, and
selected sites that
1. I'd heard of, and
2. were designed also for companies looking to buy (and not just
sell) freelance services .
------
Once again, inclusion on this list is not an endorsement of quality.
This list is not intended to be an exhaustive list of such sites.
As always, if you have any questions or would like further
clarification or information, please use the "request clarification"
button in your browser to solicit it; I am happy to provide more
information. |
